The Department/Job Names sections contain configuration settings for the Crewing module but also for Purchasing and Budgeting.

## Departments

In the Department Management module, you can define and configure the departments to be used on your ships.

The definition of departments will be done at this stage independent of what departments you will need on each ship. The department per ship will be defined at a later stage. The central department management just assures that the same departments on different ships will have the correct cost location assigned to.

**New** - For creating a new department first you will have to select the Departments root entry in the tree view. This enables the `New` button in the detail data area. Just click the button `New` for creating a new department.

**Edit** - If you want to modify the details of an existing department just select the department in the tree view and click the button `Edit` for allowing the modification of the department details. After finishing the modification you'll have to click the button `Save` for saving the changed data to the database or `Cancel` if you want to restore the original content of the department record without saving the changes.

## Jobs Names

The Job Management module allows the definition of ranks to be used on board your ships. These definitions will be used in the Crewing module but also in other modules with relations to the ship's crew (e.g. responsible person for a maintenance job).

The Job Management module manages the jobs for all ships in a global view. The ranks and number of positions on each ship will be defined separately in the Rank List.

**New** - A new job can be created in the Job Management main screen by clicking the button `New`. This activates the edit mode of the details area for entering the related information. After finishing the input click the button `Save` for saving the changes to the database or click the button `Cancel` if you don't want to save the changes.
