## Introduction

This document describes the available options for creating a new ship in
the ZeeBORN system. The document concentrates on the preparation of
maintenance related data.

## Available Options

### Option A: Converting existing data

If possible, ZeeBORN tries to arrange that already existing data will be
migrated into the ZeeBORN system. Especially for ships that are already
in operation, it's safe to assume that there is an existing planned
maintenance system. Usually the data existing in this system can be
migrated by ZeeBORN. ZeeBORN offers the service usually without causing
extra costs.

ZeeBORN takes care that all existing data will be transferred to the
ZeeBORN system. Depending on the data quality in the source system,
ZeeBORN might provide a guideline for errors found during the conversion
and that should be corrected.

### Option B: Using an existing ship as template

If no data are available for migration, already existing data from
similar ships can be used as a starting point for the preparation of the
data for a new ship. Usually the existing data from a suitable ship will
be fully copied to the new ship. Necessary adjustments will be applied
manually (see available tools below).

After the preparation of the ship is finished, ZeeBORN support needs to
reset the ship data to initial values.

### Option C: Create new database from existing manuals

If only printed manuals exist (or scanned copies in PDF-format) ZeeBORN
can arrange the required processing of the data via a ZeeBORN
sub-contractor. All documents will be scanned and transferred into
suitable data to be imported into the ZeeBORN system.

As this process is quite time consuming, please request a quotation from
ZeeBORN for this service.

## Available Tools within the ZeeBORN system

### Kozlowski Tools

Preparing a new database with the usual functions available in the
ZeeBORN system can be quite time-consuming. With the necessary access
right (see `User Management > General > Access to Pre-Release Features > Maintenance > Kozwlowski Tools`) an additional set of powerful data
administration tools can be enabled.

WARNING: All tools available in this section are quite powerful and may
also create unexpected results. Whenever you plan to use these tools,
please make sure a backup of the ZeeBORN database was created.
