Trainings in ZeeBORN are organised on three levels — understanding this makes everything
else on this page obvious:

Level | Meaning | Where it is maintained {class="compact"}
---|---
Training type | The catalogue: what kind of training exists (e.g. "Fire Fighting Basic"), whether a result is required and which certificate it leads to. | [Configuration](/Administration/Configuration/Crewing.md), or `Manage Trainings` > `Manage Training Types`
Training | A concrete course: a training of one type with a start and end date and a training number. | `Manage Trainings`
Attendance | Which crew member took part in which training. | On the crew member, tab *Training*

## Creating a course

Open the Crewing module, ribbon tab **Training**, and click `Manage Trainings`. `New` opens
the course dialog: pick the **Training Type** (it prefills name, number, certificate and the
"Result required" setting), adjust the **Training** name and **Training Number**, and set
**Start** and **End**. The type of an existing course cannot be changed afterwards.

The course list shows status, training, type, dates and number; `Show All` also lists closed
and rejected courses. Documents can be attached to a course (`Documents > Attach`).

## Recording attendance

There are two ways, and they end up in the same place:

- **From the course:** `Manage Trainings` > `More Actions` > `Assign Crewmember` — pick one
person or select from the complete crew list (multi-select is supported). Duplicate
  assignments are caught.
- **From the crew member:** select the person, ribbon tab **Training**, `New` — choose the
training (`Choose`), optionally the ship (`Site`), a remark and attachments.

**Individual trainings:** `New individual training` records a training that did not take
place as an organised course — it references the training *type* directly and has its own
start and end date. Use it for externally attended courses.

Attendance entries are edited and deleted via `Details > Edit / Delete`; every entry keeps
its history (`Show History`).

## Closing a course — and where the expiry lives

A training itself has **no expiry date and no renewal interval**. Its lifecycle is a simple
status: *Open*, *Closed* or *Rejected* (rejected courses are shown struck through, closed
ones in red italics).

The due-date logic lives in the **certificates**: when a course is closed (`Show Member
List` > `Close Training`, and a certificate/skill is linked to the training), ZeeBORN
creates a **crew certificate** for every participant — the closing dialog asks for issue
date, place, country and **expiry date**, and results (percentage, note, certificate number)
can be recorded per participant. An older certificate of the same kind is set inactive.
From then on the monitoring happens on the [Certificates](Certificates.md) page — with its
pre-warning traffic lights — not in the training area.

`Reject Training` requires a reason and removes the course's assignments.

## Rights

The Training tab and its functions are permission-controlled — typical setups give the
crewing department the training rights and restrict `Manage Trainings`, `Close Training`
and `Manage Training Types` to fewer users. If one of the buttons described here is
missing, the right is the first thing to check.
