Date fields can be filled either by picking from the calendar or by typing. Typing is much faster once the date is known — the calendar is for looking, not for entering.

## Typing a date

Select the field and type the digits in the order the date is displayed in. The separators do not have to be typed; the field inserts them.

Which order applies depends on the regional settings of the computer, not on ZeeBORN:

Regional setting | Order | Example for 5 March 2026 {class="compact"}
---|---|---
German | day, month, year | `05.03.2026`
United States | month, day, year | `3/5/2026`

This is worth checking once on an unfamiliar workstation. **05/03** means the fifth of March on one machine and the third of May on another — a date that ends up a month or two out is almost always this.

## Picking from the calendar

Open the calendar on the field. The arrows either side of the heading move one month back or forward.

For a date further away, work upwards rather than clicking through the months: **click the heading** and the calendar switches to the months of that year, click it again for the years. Choose the year, then the month, then the day.

## Time fields

A time is entered as `hh:mm` in the 24-hour clock. Where a record has a date and a time — the start of an off-hire, the moment of an incident — they are separate fields, and both matter for the calculations built on them.
