Catalogs are more or less identical to locations of a site/ship. The only difference between a location and a catalog is the unavailability of quantity management features on catalog level. But via the linking feature that links a catalog entry to an stock item on board you get a central management of article details that will distribute changes in article descriptions and pricing automatically to the related stock items on board without the need of a manual update of each stock item for each related site/ship.
