First, the database engine needs to be installed.

* Run the `DBEngineSetup.exe` for starting the installation.
* If you don't have any special requirements, leave the option `use default configuration` checked, and start the installation by clicking the `Install` button.

The installation will finish after a few seconds.

## 2. Server Setup

[!embed Click on ▶️ to start the video](https://docs.zeeborn.info/video/serversetup.mp4)

The server setup prepares the database on the database server and also puts all required resources on the server that will be needed later on to install and connect the clients.

* Run the `ServerSetup.exe` for starting the installation.
* In most cases you don't need to change any of the available options.
* Click the button `Install` and the installation starts.

During the installation process the database on the server will be upgraded to the newest version. Depending on the amount of data that may already exist in the database, the installation process can take several minutes.

## 3. Client Setup

The client setup is used for connecting a PC to the previously installed database server and for installing the client software.

* After starting the ClientSetup.exe you will need to enter the name of the server where the database is installed.
* In most cases it won't be necessary to enter a different port number than the default number shown on screen.
* You can use the "Test Server" button for testing if a connection to the database server can be established.
* Click on "Install" to start the installation.

The installation usually takes only a few seconds.
