Estimated Prices

Estimated prices answer one question up front: what do we expect this work to cost? They are recorded long before the yards send back their quotations, and they stay available as a reference through the whole dry docking — including the comparison against what the yards actually offer.

Where an estimate can be recorded

On a catalog job card. If you work with catalog job cards, the estimate is stored once on the catalog entry and carried over every time that job card is added to a dry dock. The catalog list shows it in an Est. Price column. If the catalog price is held in a different currency than the dry dock's home currency, it is converted on the way.

Adding them through New Job Card > Free Jobs from Catalog brings the estimates along with the job cards.

On a job card in the dry dock. Every job card has an Estimated Price field with a currency, defaulting to the dry dock's home currency. An estimate that came from the catalog can be overwritten here, so a one-off correction does not affect the catalog.

On the dry dock as a whole. The dry dock itself takes an Estimated Budget — one overall figure, independent of the individual job cards. This is what you use when a budget target exists before anything has been estimated position by position.

The financial overview

The dry dock's detail view collects all cost figures in a Financial Overview:

Estimated Budget	The overall budget recorded on the dry dock by hand.
Estimated (Job Cards)	The sum of the individual job card estimates.
Offered Costs (Yard)	The sum of what the yard quoted, after discount.
Owners Costs	The sum of the owner's cost positions.
Real Costs	The sum of what was actually paid.

All of them are converted into the dry dock's home currency, so they can be compared directly. The estimates also appear in the cost overview, the yard comparison and the quotation overview.

Note that the two estimate figures answer different questions and need not match: the Estimated Budget is a target set at the top, Estimated (Job Cards) is what the positions add up to. A difference between them is information, not an inconsistency.

Letting the yard see the estimate

Whether the estimates go out with the tender is a configuration decision, not a per-tender one. Open Dry Docking > Configuration > General and tick Show estimated price in tender.

• Ticked — the tender contains an additional Est. Price column with your figure per job card. The yard sees your reference and fills its own prices into the columns beside it.
• Not ticked — the tender goes out without that column.

Whether the yard should see your budget figure at all is a commercial decision. The switch exists precisely so it can be made deliberately.

Changing the setting between sending a tender and importing the answer does no harm: the import detects by itself whether the returned file contains the estimate column, and reads the prices from the right place either way.

A typical run

1. Maintain the estimates on the catalog job cards once.
2. Create the dry dock and add the catalog job cards — the estimates come along.
3. Record an overall Estimated Budget if you have one.
4. Adjust individual estimates where this dry dock differs.
5. Decide whether the yards should see the estimates, and set the configuration accordingly.
6. Send the tender.
7. Import the quotations and compare them against your estimates in the financial overview.
