8026 Error obtaining server drive information from server and share names

Possible Problem: This error can sometimes occur when using server-side aliases. For example, if you use a server-side alias like:

myalias=c:\test_drive\data\orders

and connect to this database using the connection string \servername\myalias\order_db.add.

If the order_db database specifies a relative path to any files (temp file path, index file paths, etc), and if that path is "behind" the .add file (for example, "..\tempdir"), you will receive an 8026 error.

Solution: Modify the alias path so it includes any portions of the path that will be required to convert relative paths stored in the data dictionary. In the example above, the alias can be converted to:

myalias=c:\test_drive\data

and the connection path can be changed to \servername\myalias\orders\order_db.add

Errors in the 8000 range are returned when the Advantage server makes a direct call to an OS API, and that function returns a failure. If you receive an error in the 8000 range, retry the database operation. If the error condition persists, please send a small re-creation to Advantage Technical Support demonstrating the problem so that Advantage R&D can investigate the issue.

8027 Error creating sockets. No sockets were able to be created

Problem: Advantage Database Server was not able to create any sockets for communications. Advantage Database Server on Windows or Linux will continue to run and allow direct inter-process communications with clients running on the same physical machine as the server. It will not be able to accept connections from clients running on remote machines.

Solution: Verify that a networking protocol (TCP/IP or IPX) is installed and enabled on the server. If a LAN_IP_ADDRESS or INTERNET_IP_ADDRESS is specified in the Advantage Database Server configuration, verify that it is correct.

8028 Error when initializing the WinSock DLL

Errors in the 8000 range are returned when the Advantage server makes a direct call to an OS API, and that function returns a failure. If you receive an error in the 8000 range, retry the database operation. If the error condition persists, please send a small re-creation to Advantage Technical Support demonstrating the problem so that Advantage R&D can investigate the issue.

8030 Math function error

Problem: An error (such as a domain error) occurred in a math library function. For example, a negative value was passed to the function that computes square roots.

Solution: The most likely cause of this error is the invalid use of a math function in an SQL statement. For example, the statement "SELECT sqrt( field ) FROM test" would generate the error if the field value was negative in any records. Verify that valid domain values are used in all math functions.

8034 Compression initialization failure

An error occurred in the compression library when attempting to initialize a compression or decompression stream on the server.

8035 Compression Cleanup Failure

An error occurred in the compression library when attempting to free up a compression or decompression stream on the server.

8036 Error renaming file

Problem: An error occurred when attempting to rename a file. In addition to the system error code associated with the failure, the Advantage error log will contain both the old name and the new name of the file.

Solution: Make copies of the file(s) and attempt to rename the file manually.

8037 No IP network adapters found

Advantage was unable to find any IP adapters. This can occur if the IP stack is not correctly configured. Verify the host name is configured correctly and that the host name has an entry in the "hosts" file as well.

If using the Advantage Database Server for Linux, which does not support IPX, this is a fatal error, and the server will not start. If using any other operating system, this error is for informational purposes, and the server will attempt to continue using IPX.

8038 No network adapters found

Advantage was unable to find any network adapters on this computer. This can occur if the network layer is not configured correctly.

8039 Registration Failure

An error occurred while verifying the server's registration. Contact Advantage Support with the specific error information for help in resolving this issue.

8040 Error creating shared memory object

Problem: Advantage Database Server failed to create a shared memory object to use for inter-process communications (IPC) with clients running on the same physical workstation. This error is logged for informational purposes and is not returned to the client. The entry preceding this error in the error log will show the specific system error code.

Solution: This error can occur if a client application has stopped responding and has been disconnected by Advantage Database Server. The client application will hold the IPC objects for a specific connection entry and prevent future use of them. Close the unresponsive client application to free up the IPC objects.

8041 Error creating inter-process communication semaphore

Problem: Advantage Database Server failed to create a semaphore for inter-process communications (IPC) with clients running on the same physical workstation.

8042 Error creating security descriptor

Advantage Database Server was not able to create a security descriptor for an inter-process communication object.

8043 File copy failure

Problem:** Advantage failed to copy a file.

Solution:** See the Advantage Database Server's error log for more information on why the copy failed.

8044 ERR_UNABLE_TO_LOAD_ACE

Problem: Advantage Database Server was unable to dynamically load the Advantage Client Engine on startup. This error is never returned to a client application; it is only logged to the Advantage error log. When Advantage Database Server starts, it attempts to load the Advantage Client Engine, which is required for replication. Advantage will be unable to replicate data to target database if this occurs. If replication is enabled, however, the updates will be stored in the replication queue and will be processed when Advantage is restarted with the Advantage Client Engine available.

Solution: Make sure that the necessary library files are available to Advantage Database Server. In Windows environments, make sure the latest versions of ACE32.DLL and AXCWS32.DLL are available. In Linux, make sure the latest libace.so.X.YY.Z is available. You will need to stop and restart Advantage Database Server in order to load the Advantage client library.

8045 ERR_UNABLE_TO_LOAD_ACE_ENTRYPOINT

Problem: Advantage Database Server was unable to find a required entrypoint function in the dynamically loaded Advantage Client Engine library. This error is never returned to a client application; it is only logged to the Advantage error log. When Advantage Database Server starts, it attempts to load the Advantage Client Engine, which is required for replication. It then verifies that all the necessary external entrypoint functions are available. Advantage will be unable to replicate data to the target database if this occurs. If replication is enabled, though, the updates will be stored in the replication queue and will be processed when Advantage is restarted with a valid copy of the Advantage Client Engine.

8046 Time function error

Problem: An error was returned from a platform library time function.

Solution: Adjust the system clock of the server such that it is after midnight, January 1, 1970.
