# Linking Stock Items to Catalog Items

A stock item in a location can be linked to an article in a central catalog. This identifies both entries as identical.

Via the link between the catalog article and the stock item in a location you get the following advantages:

1. Adjustments of detail information and prices for catalog articles will be automatically distributed to all linked articles. Instead of adjusting the stock items details manually for each single ship/site you can use the catalog for the centralized management of these data.
2. Having a link for a catalog article to a stock item in a location enables the quantity tracking for this item. Catalog articles do not support quantity tracking due to the central character of this database - stock items do.
