Carry Over Findings

When a new inspection of a given type is started on a vessel, findings from the previous inspection of the same type are often still open. Instead of typing them in again, they can be carried over into the new inspection with one action.

What happens on a carry-over

Findings that are still open — status new or in process — in an earlier inspection of the same type on the same vessel are taken over:

  • Each finding is copied into the current inspection as a new task and stays linked to the original one, so the history remains traceable. Its description gets a [Carry-Over] line naming the original task number and the date.
  • The original task is closed automatically and receives a closing remark pointing to the new task.
  • The new task carries the prefix [CARRY-OVER] in its title, and its detail page shows a banner marking it as carried over from a previous inspection.

Nothing is lost by this: both sides keep a reference to the other.

Switching it on per inspection type

Carry-over is decided per inspection type, because it does not make sense everywhere — a recurring safety walk benefits from it, a one-off visit usually does not.

  1. Go to Audit & Inspect > Configuration > Audit Types.
  2. Select the inspection type.
  3. Tick carry over open findings from previous audits into new audit.
  4. Save.

Carrying findings over

  1. Create the new inspection of that type as usual.
  2. Select it in the tree.
  3. Click Carry Over Open Findings. The button only appears if the inspection type has carry-over switched on — if it is missing, that setting is the first thing to check.
  4. Confirm the question that follows.

Afterwards a summary states how many findings were carried over, and points out that the earlier inspection can now be closed manually.

What to check afterwards

  • In the new inspection — every carried-over task is marked [CARRY-OVER] and shows the banner.
  • In the previous inspection — those tasks are now closed and carry a remark naming the new task.
  • In the safety report of the new inspection — the carried-over findings appear there, each showing the audit it originally came from, so the history stays readable.

Undoing a carry-over

There is no undo button. If findings were carried over by mistake, reverse it by hand: delete the carried-over tasks in the new inspection, and reopen the original tasks in the previous inspection through the follow-up.
