Audit Carry-Over: Open Findings from Previous Inspections
Release: 2026-04-23
What's new
When you start a new Inspection of a given type on a ship, you often want to carry over the open findings from the previous Inspection of the same type — so that problems that were raised but not yet fixed are automatically part of the new Inspection too, without you having to re-enter them.
ZeeBORN now supports this Carry-Over with a single click.
How it works
- Findings that are still open (status "new" or "in process") in any previous Inspection of the same type on the same ship are picked up.
- Each such finding is copied into the current Inspection as a new Task, linked back to the original for traceability. The description of the new task is extended with a [Carry-Over] ... line showing the original Task number and the carry-over date.
- The original task is closed automatically (status "completed") and gets a closing remark pointing to the new task.
- On the task's HTML detail page, a clear "Legacy Task — Carried Over from Previous Inspection" banner is shown so there's no doubt that this finding originated in an earlier Inspection.
- The [CARRY-OVER] prefix is also added to the task's title header.
Turning it on per Inspection Type
Carry-Over is configured per Inspection Type — not every type benefits from it. For example, a scheduled Safety Walk might want carry-over, while a one-off Technical Superintendent visit might not.
- Go to Audit & Inspection → Configuration → Manage Inspection Types.
- Pick the Inspection Type.
- Tick "Carry Over Open Findings" in the properties.
- Save.
Triggering the Carry-Over (test phase)
⚠️ Test-phase note: During the current release the carry-over is triggered manually via a button, so you can verify the behaviour in a controlled way before it runs automatically. In the following release, the carry-over will run automatically when you create a new Inspection of a Carry-Over-enabled type — no click needed.
Manual trigger (current release)
- Create a new Inspection of the configured type as usual.
- Select the new Inspection in the tree.
- Click Carry Over Open Findings in the action bar. (The button is only visible if the Inspection Type has carry-over enabled.)
- A confirmation dialog asks you to confirm the operation.
- After the operation, a summary dialog tells you how many findings were carried over and reminds you that the previous Inspection(s) can now be closed manually.
Automatic trigger (planned for next release)
The manual button will be kept as a fallback, but the default behaviour will be:
- When you create a new Inspection of a Carry-Over-enabled type and set its status to "in progress" (not "planned"), ZeeBORN runs the carry-over automatically.
- The previous Inspection(s) are also closed automatically in that flow.
What happens to the Safety Report
The carried-over findings appear in the Safety Report of the new Inspection. The origin-audit name (where the finding was first raised) is shown next to each deficiency, so auditors can trace the history.
Things to check after the first carry-over
- Look at the task list of the new Inspection — every carried-over task is tagged [CARRY-OVER] and shows the banner.
- Look at the previous Inspection — its tasks are set to "completed" with a closing remark pointing to the new task.
- Run the Safety Report — the carried-over findings appear under the new Inspection, with the origin-audit listed.
Rollback / Undo
If you carried over findings by mistake, you can reverse the operation manually by:
- Deleting the carried-over tasks in the new Inspection.
- Reopening the original tasks in the previous Inspection (or undoing their "completed" status via the follow-up).
A dedicated undo button is not part of this release and will be considered based on feedback.
