Position

Where a record needs a location — an off-hire period, an incident, a bunkering — the position is entered in one of three ways, depending on how the module is configured:

  • as a port, picked from the port list,
  • as latitude and longitude, for a position at sea,
  • or both, where a port call and exact coordinates are both wanted.

Which of them you are offered is not a choice made per record: it follows the configuration of that module. A field that seems to be missing is usually not missing but switched off there.

A port that does not exist in the list can, in most modules, be entered manually — that is the case for a berth or an anchorage that is not a port in its own right.

Coordinates are entered in the format the field shows. Where a record has two positions — a start and an end, as with an off-hire period — they are recorded separately, and modules that support it offer to copy the first into the second instead of typing it twice.
