Printing, Exporting, Sharing Data
Instead of separate print and export commands, the system has one Share function, in the sense the word has on a phone: you pick what should happen with what is currently on screen.
Almost anything shown can be shared — a document, a report, or a list of data.
What is offered
What you can choose depends on what you are looking at:
The reason for the split is the nature of the content: a report is a finished document and becomes a PDF, whereas a list is data and becomes a spreadsheet you can sort and calculate with.
What ends up in the file
A list is exported as you have arranged it. Sorting, grouping and the columns you have shown or hidden are taken over — so it is worth arranging the list on screen first and exporting afterwards. See Data Grids.
An export never contains more than you are allowed to see. Your permissions and the vessels available to you apply to the file exactly as they do on screen.
When a file is written
Wherever an export writes a file, the confirmation message contains a link that opens it in the Explorer, so the file does not have to be hunted for afterwards.
Send E-Mail prepares a mail with the export attached and opens it. The mail is not sent by the system — it is reviewed and sent by you, like any other mail.
